Master of Your Domain

I've been told that in order to be an excellent internet marketer, you absolutely have to buy a domain. Would this then apply to your basic broke musician? I say that it just might.

Domains can be somewhere in the range of 10 bucks a year. Which is just fine for someone like me, however, you still have to pay for hosting, which can be a bit more expensive. To me, hosting shouldn't be such a big deal. But in the eyes of search engines unfortunately, it is.

This comes as a bit of a conundrum for me. As the old addage goes, you have to spend money to make money. I was kind of thinking in the back of my mind, that if I can't get visitors to this site, well then how in the world am i going to get visitors to the site that I'm ultimately going to end up paying for?

This may just be a backwards way at looking at things. I read recently about how companies tend to overlook their graphic design, as they don't want to spend money before they make money. And all I could think to myself is "That's stupid." But on the same note, I'm falling into that trap with domains. If I spend money on domains, more people will visit my site naturally. It feels kind of silly, but sometimes you just have to look at things from a different perspective.

In conclusion, would I recommend spending money on a domain? Yes. Have I spent money on a domain personally? No. Hopefully though, this will all change soon.
